A little spice, a little hydration

Hi!

If you’ve been hanging out with me long enough, you know I have a thing for bringing Indian ingredients into cocktails in a way that feels fresh, fun, and totally unexpected.

Today’s drink is the Spicy Passionfruit Sabja cocktail.

It’s sweet from ripe passionfruit, tangy from fresh citrus, hydrating from sabja seeds, and just the right amount of spice from a hot honey addition!

What is Sabja?

Sabja seeds are the tiny black seeds from sweet basil used for centuries across India and Southeast Asia in drinks and desserts. They’re also known in Ayurveda for cooling the body, which makes them perfect in a spicy cocktail.

Recipe:

1.5 oz tequila

2 oz passionfruit sabja (found in any local indian grocery store)

.5 oz lime juice

.5 oz hot honey

Ice

Method:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, add all ingredients

  2. Shake for 10-15 seconds

  3. Strain and pour into a rocks glass over fresh ice

  4. Optional garnish: passionfruit round, dried lime, chili pepper, tajin rim

Cheers!
